The ISIS Agreement: How sustainability can improve organizational performance and transform the world
by Alan AtKisson, Earthscan (London), 2008
The ISIS Agreement is the second book in a planned trilogy, but it stands completely on its own as well. The first book, Believing Cassandra, looks backward, to the recent past, to understand the origins of the great sustainability challenge facing humanity. It describes some of the “Cassandras” (scientific researchers) who tried to warn us about what was happening early on, and looks for (and finds) sources of hope for transformative change.
The ISIS Agreement is about the present: what to do, now and going forward, to make transformative change happen. How can “sustainability change agents” work more effectively? And how can we create more and more of them? The ISIS Agreement tries to uncover the most challenging obstacles to such work, while also empowering the reader to overcome those obstacles and accelerate change.
Reviews have, thankfully, been kind so far: click the image to see quotes on the publisher’s website. The final book in the series (which I hope will take less time to research and write, it was nine years between the first two books) will concern humanity’s capacity to envision the future — and how this determines our, and the planet’s, fate.
